I thought about how to make a rope that was like a ladder. The final result of this strap is stretchy, so it might be suitable for light bags such as mini bags or cellphone bags. I like that the finished product looks modern with its horizontal lines.

In the video tutorial I use light worsted weight yarn and size 3mm crochet hook.

R: Row
ch: chain
sc: single crochet
hdc: half-double crochet

The base: Ch 1, then sc 6

R1: Ch 5. Yarn over, then hdc to the first sc of the base.
R2: Ch 5. Yarn over, then hdc to the first chain of ch 5.

Repeat R2 until the rope reaches the desired length.
Cut the yarn and use tapestry needle to sew the yarn to the back loops of ch 5, 2 or 3 stitches for each back loop. Make sure the total stitch is the same as the total stitch of the other side. Cut the yarn and hide the yarn tail. Secure it with glue.
